Swan Cottage lies midway between Kenninghall and East Harling, both rural villages are close to the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Kenninghall is a pretty village, once part of the Duke of Norfolk’s estates. The village has a well-stocked shop and post office selling local produce, and there are two pubs and a bistro. East Harling is a larger village where you will find a small selection of shops and pubs. The area is well placed for visiting many attractions.
A short drive brings you to Thetford Forest and the Brecks, where there is an abundance of flora and fauna, including red and roe deer that may be seen as you walk or cycle along the many woodland paths. Less than fifteen minutes in the car will take you to Bressingham Steam Museum, St. Georges Whisky Distillery, Snetterton Race Track, Banham Zoo, the World Horse Welfare Centre, Knettishall Heath Country Park, Redgrave and Lopham Fen Nature Reserve and the start of the Peddars Way long distance footpath.
The historic city of Norwich with its cathedral, over fifty medieval churches, riverside walks and boat trips is twenty two miles away. Just North of Norwich you will find The Norfolk Broads where you can hire a boat to explore the meandering waterways. Other nearby towns to explore are Attleborough, Bury St Edmunds and Diss, where there is a mainline train station which provides a fast connection into London’s Liverpool Street station.
If you would like to leave the car at home this would be a great way arrive and taxis are available to take you onto Swan Cottage.
